The Choir Director Prepares for Vespers

As the memorial service concluded, a residue of sweet incense filled every corner of the nave with prayers and frankincense. Our choir director had a few brief moments to transition from rehearsals and the memorial service to vespers. This was the week after Daylight Savings Time, when the 6:00 hour was distinctly bright. As I looked up from my choir book, I saw this beautiful, blue ray of light beaming in from a western window. The tiny incense particles helped define the light into a spectacular shaft of incandescent blue, landing just beyond our director. This was a fitting tribute to that office requiring so much behind the scenes work and preparation. And, it reminded me how much I enjoy the late afternoon sunshine bringing those brighter days of spring
