SHOW NOTES:

Why should Orthodox Christians educate their children outside

the public and private school settings?

Ask yourself: why are you not teaching your teens at home?

-- they want to play sports

--they want to have friends

--I don’t know how to teach advanced subjects

--my kids are social and want to get out of the house

--I have to work

--I have to take care of older family members

--my kids drive me crazy

--I’m not organized enough

--the schools in my area are really good

What are the Benefits of Teaching your children at home?

1. Influence

“Don’t give up your influence at the very time your ability to inculcate godly values is most effective.” Leigh Bortins

2. Choose a more intentional lifestyle

Orthodoxy is an intentional faith, and works well with homeschooling which is intentional learning

3. Choose a curriculum that fits your family values

4. The ability to keep the church calendar at the center of your family

5. Time

“Homeschooling gives families the gift of time with their children.”

6. Teaching the Faith.

7. It forces you to rely on God and His provision for your family.

8. You can make sure your kids are reading good literature

9. Your kids will learn to socialize with people of all ages, not just their peers

10. Homeschooling gives your children the opportunity to have part time work and service projects
