Infant Baptism

52 Weeks in Orthodoxy

A photo a week from our life in Christ in the Orthodox Church

When an infant has reached 40 days of age, his godparents will bring him forward for baptism into the one holy catholic and apostolic church. Thus begins his life in Christ.  As all Orthodox baptisms, the infant baptism begins in the narthex with his godparents, on behalf of the child, renouncing the devil and all his works and then publicly proclaiming Christ to all the parish. A baptism is a beautiful thing, not only because many in the parish are seeing the new baby for the first time, but also because the baby is now becoming part of the active community of believers who are walking with Jesus Christ every day.
